U.S. cosmetics laden with chemicals linked to cancer, reproductive problems

Have you had your formaldehyde, dioxane, parabens, lead, toluene and diethyl phthalate today? If you're like the average American woman, that just means you shampooed, used deodorant and put on lipstick, nail polish and perfume. According to experts, most women use 12 cosmetics each day that have 120 chemicals in them – many linked to cancer – and most men use six cosmetic products that use 80 chemicals.

Once you get over those numbers, consider that Europe has banned 1,200 chemicals in cosmetic products. The United States? Only 10!

There's a bill struggling through Congress (while the cosmetics industry is spending $3.5 million to lobby against it) to regulate cosmetic chemicals that are linked to cancer and reproductive problems.

In the meantime, according to a report by ABC News Consumer Watchdog Jim Avila, choose cosmetic products with the fewest ingredients and if you can't pronounce it, don't use it on or in your body!
