A second trial over injuries caused by Johnson & Johnson's Ethicon pelvic mesh products began in Philidelphia on January 25th, 2016. Plaintiff's counsel described the the on-going pain and suffering she lives with on a daily basis and the impact it has had on her ability to have sex with her husband. These problems will be on-going, as the mesh cannot be safely removed.
In an earlier case in December the jury agreed that the Prolift pelvic mesh product was negligently designed and the physician received inadequate warnings about the risk to patients. That case resulted in a $12.5 million verdict, with $5.5 million in compensatory damages plus another $7 million in punitive damages. Removing the product can cause further scarring, which in turns lead to more pain and suffering.
