Johnson & Johnson settles 845 Levaquin lawsuits in federal court

Court records indicate that Johnson & Johnson, maker of the antibiotic Levaquin, has reached settlements with about 845 of 1,900 plaintiffs in a multidistrict litigation case in U.S. District Court in Minnesota. The initial agreements will be completed soon, though terms of the settlement are confidential, according to a spokesman for the manufacturer based in New Brunswick, N.J.

More than 3,400 lawsuits have been filed nationwide against Johnson & Johnson that allege patients suffered tendon injuries after being prescribed Levaquin. Court records show the company has won three of four cases that have gone to trial. Plaintiffs have claimed Johnson & Johnson failed to properly warn consumers for the sake of increase profits, after Levaquin was linked to tendon injuries in the elderly.
