Continuing coverage: Vaginal mesh campaigner dies following complications related to device

The Daily Mail (UK) (12/4, Matthews, 4.04M) continues coverage of the passing of Ontario woman Christina Brajcic, “a prominent vaginal mesh campaigner” who died due to “sepsis which was triggered by her controversial implant.” Her death comes after “landmark moves by English and Australian health officials to recommend the controversial implants should no longer be used.” The article notes that “leading mesh manufacturer Johnson & Johnson was forced to pay out $57 million in September” to a Philadelphia woman implanted with the device “after a jury found the company to be negligent and its product defective.”

International Business Times (12/5, 654K) reports that Brajcic “is believed to be the first woman to die from complications arising from the treatment.” She had previously “launched a lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson, the company which made her device, joining thousands of other Canadian and American women and 800 in the U.K., who were already involved in litigation against various mesh providers.” The Independent (UK) (12/5, Marsden, 1.98M) also covers the story.
